Is Work-Life Balance a Thing of the Past?
Written By: Brenda Quach
The concept of work-life balance has been around for decades, and has become especially important in more recent years – but is the concept of work-life balance obsolete?
More recently, the phrases "work-life integration", and “flexible workplace” has become more commonly used worldwide. This concept that was unimaginable in the past, where personal and work life is intermingled, appears to be on the rise and shows no signs of slowing down.
Embracing work-life integration can lead to a more fulfilling, productive, and sustainable work life. As a business owner, it's important to prioritize this approach and create a supportive environment for employees to thrive in both their personal and professional lives.
As the concept of work-life integration gains more traction, it's important to recognize that achieving this balance isn't always easy. Here are some tips to help promote work-life integration:
Set Clear Boundaries
Make it clear to your employees what is expected of them during their work hours. Encourage them to switch off from work when they are not expected to be on.
Offer flexible working arrangements
Consider offering flexible hours or remote work options to allow your employees to better integrate their personal and professional lives.
ENCOURAGE SELF-CARE
Promote the importance of self-care to your employees. Encourage them to take breaks throughout the day, exercise, and prioritize their mental health.
foster a supportive culture
Create a culture that values and promotes work-life integration. Encourage open communication and support your employees in achieving their personal and professional goals.
By implementing these strategies, you can help promote work-life integration and create a more fulfilling and sustainable work environment for your employees. Happier employees will ultimately lead to a more successful business.
I want to provide a work-life integration culture in my business but i’m not sure where to start.
If this sounds like you—you are not alone. There are many businesses going through the trial-and-error phases of this new work lifestyle and we are all learning from it. Of course, it is easier to manage and monitor employees when they are in office but where do we begin with the new trend of Work(ing)-From-Anywhere (WFA)?
A few things to consider are:
WFH/WFA Policy (tools and equipment, time tracking, expectations, performance measurement, etc.)
Onboarding checklist for remote employees
Hiring and onboarding remotely
Workplace Health and Safety at home
Culture activities for remote employees
Here at HR Transformed, we can help take care of the backstage tasks that should be implemented for a successful WFH/WFA workforce while you focus on running your business.
